Welcome to The Great Eastern, rated one of Londons cleanest and friendliest backpackers by Hostel World guests.
Please ignore our location rating. We are in a beautiful part of London. No, we are not in the West End and you cannot wake up to the bells of Big Ben (although the boat trip from here to Big Ben is amazing).
Stay with us if you want a more unique experience of London than the one you read about in your travel guide. Stay with us if you want to stroll the historic Thames Path or walk under (yes under!) the river to the charming Greenwich Village. And best of all, we are located just two minutes from the DLR station, so London centre is just 20 minutes away when you are ready for some inner-city fun.
If it is your first visit to London and you want to see the usual sites, we can happily recommend our sister hostels located in the city. Otherwise, dare to be different and visit us at The Great Eastern. You will be glad you did!

Important Information
We do not accept guests under the age of 18.
Our hostel operates a strict non-smoking policy.
We have a 24hr cancellation policy. Late cancellations and no-shows shall b e charged the equivalent of the first night’s accommodation. Groups are subject to a 28-day cancellation policy; late cancellations for groups shall be charged the equivalent of the first two night’s accommodation.
For bookings made during the London 2012 Olympics, we require payment upon booking, with a 28-day cancellation policy.
Guests are expected to respect other guests, staff, local residents and property. In the case of groups, the group leaders must ensure that all members of their group behave in an acceptable manor. Failure of any individual group member to do so will result in the expulsion of the whole group.
Please bring your own towel; although we sell them we recommend that backpackers always have their own!

We are located at 1 Glenaffric Avenue, London E14 3BW.
Nearest Tube Stop: Island Gardens, DLR.
Directions to the Great Eastern (Formally branded “Watermans Arms”)
When you arrive at Island Gardens station, exit the station and turn left walking down the road.
If you look up you will see a church steeple that is located in the same road we are so that is a good landmark for where you are heading to.
Continue down the road for approximately 150 metres then take the first road on the right - Glenaffric Avenue
Walk up Glenaffric Avenue and we're the last property on the Right called the Great Eastern.

Très bon accueil! L'auberge était très propre et nous mangions très bien!
L'auberge est située un peu loin du centre mais elle est très facile d'accès tout de même, même de nuit avec le bus (moins de 30 min du centre de Londres...). Le quartier est en plus très agréable et calme! Je recommande cet endroit!

Far better than I expected. Nice pub at the bottom floor, and pleasant atmosphere in the facility. I met there really interesting people from as far as Australia and Canada and other sides. Highly recommended.

It's a great hostel to stay. The bedroom and bathroom are very clean. But there is also a lot of drunk people that it's become annoying.

The hostel is very nice, is accessed rather easily, tram and Metro nearby room and own bath room, calm and security, the staff is very welcoming, I will not hesitate to return on my next stay!
